Hempire Building Materials Ltd have been developing solutions to address the problem of
CO2 emissions created by the manufacture of building materials.
We manufacture building materials made from sustainable materials sourced entirely from within the
British Isles that are suitable for use in the construction of zero carbon buildings.
We use industrial hemp as our main raw material. Cultivating hemp runs parallel with ‘green
future objectives’. Hemp requires little to no biocides, improves soil structure and fertility, and
also controls erosion. These positive attributes make hemp the ideal break crop for farmers.
Cultivating a hectare of hemp sequesters approx 10 tons of CO2 per annum.
Hemp is probably the most versatile crop known to man considering its wide variety of applications.
Hemp has been grown throughout the world for millennia and is still common throughout Eastern
Europe and China. With growing awareness of climate change, cultivating hemp is making a
comeback in the UK.
During the reign of Elizabeth I it was mandatory for farmers to grow hemp!
